Club Heritage

It takes drive, dedication, and the love of the sport to create a tennis facility from an empty pasture in the Isla Verde area of San Juan.

Founding Members

Established in 1979, the Isla Verde Tennis Club is the first public tennis court built with private funds' help. It was the first public court created by citizens in the area. The journey to creating this treasured community resource began in 1974 when a group of dedicated residents formed the "Asociación de Residentes de Isla Verde." The organization would help navigate the complex process of securing permits, funding, and support from various government agencies, corporate sponsors, and influential individuals.

Under the guidance and direction of Lieschen Cordero and Tita Nido, the Asociación worked tirelessly to bring the Isla Tennis Club to life. Ken Niddrie drew up the plans for the club.

It took five years of dedicated fundraising efforts to fund the project entirely. Still, the result was a contemporary public tennis court that has brought joy and athleticism to the Isla Verde community for over four decades.

Today, the Isla Verde Tennis Club is a beloved community resource, offering tennis courts, instructional programs, and tournaments for players of all ages and skill levels.

The Isla Verde Tennis Club is a true community success story, and its existence is a testament to the determination and perseverance of its founders and supporters.
